The background for #4, Sias’ fourth work in Berkeley, originally existed as its own piece. The thousand phrases painted and slowly weathered by solvents over a couple months serve as the rich and complex background for this motive painting. Simple shapes exist in a volatile harmony with their surrounding decomposition, and the bright reds balance the dark, cool blues and indigos.
