Sias began a new series after being inspired by the use of color in the work of contemporary Bay Area artists Elmer Bischoff and Sam Francis, and the work of Mark Rothko. Seeking to use the simple color scheme of a main background and a contrasting series of circles, or “orbs”, Sias let the simplicity to do the talking. A whipping black wave caressing vibrant red orbs disrupts like sea spray towards the upper right. The violent energy put forth in this piece is a testament to war and its often for-profit bloodshed, but its floating nature suggests a dual existence.
